This year I joined Blog Action Day 2009. Today bloggers everywhere will write about Climate Change in an effort to raise awareness and promote action. I was excited when I learned about #BAD2009, the fact that it coincides with my current trip to San Diego and everything I am reading at both the San Diego Zoo and Sea World about conservation of animals and resources seem too perfect of an opportunity to pass up.
Climate change is an issue that affects all of us in one way or another. As I mentioned before I am hanging out in San Diego and got the pleasure of seeing the Polar bears. Did you know many Polar bears are drowning? Climate change and melting ice flow means there is a much greater distance between the sea ice and the Polar bears are unable to swim the increased distance. Rent the Disney movie, "Earth" to see exactly what I'm talking about.
A little closer to home, all of my Flagstaff people have most likely heard me complain about an annoying little bug called …
Did you know that you can swap out your kids at Sea World?
Seriously. Just look at this sign near "Journey to Atlantis". Apparently if you don't like your kids you can swap them out for better ones (presumably). I didn't have time to get all the details and see if you can swap for things other than kids, like T Shirts and other apparel, but come on... a child swap... how awesome is that?!?!
Did you also know that if you are willing to sacrifice your gastrointestinal system and have at least an hour to dedicate to the porcelain god, you can screw Sea World out of approximately $71.73? See Traci's post "Glutton for Sea World" for more on that little known fact.
I still manged to get a bunch of pictures and an epic video while doing all my learning today. The slide show is below, feel free to leave comments here or on the web album site (I will upload the video to YouTube later, the internet connection here fails hard).
Or as Ron Burgundy would call it, "a whale's vagina" zoo. Anyway, the weather was perfect and the animals were more than willing to pose for some pictures, which I will gladly share with you now. If you see any you really like feel free to download them from my web album , and leave a comment on the pics you like!
Seattle is a pretty nice place, although I have determined that you must have a petty coat, scarf, and cup of coffee in order to be allowed outside...
Here are some pics and a low quality video of a fish toss.
Looks like someone finally found a use for that Wii Balance Board they haven't used since purchase... Balance Board used in experimental airport screening study: "The US has invested a healthy amount of money into combating the terrorist threat -- certainly a bit more than $100. According to a CNN report, one of a few experimental methods being used to identify suspicious dudes at the airport uses Nintendo's Wii Balance Board (sans Wii Fit Plus). Scientists part of the Future Attribute Screening Technology (FAST) program have taken the Wii Fit peripheral and adjusted it to measure how a person shifts their weight. Scientists hope to find 'a level of fidgeting that would suggest the need for secondary screening.' We're just glad we're not a part of the study, because every time we step on a Balance Board, we can't help but act like we're playing that awesome hula hoop minigame. That's a suspicious amount of fidgeting. [Via Kotaku]Balance Board …
