Balance Board used in experimental airport screening study

Looks like someone finally found a use for that Wii Balance Board they haven't used since purchase... Balance Board used in experimental airport screening study : " The US has invested a healthy amount of money into combating the terrorist threat -- certainly a bit more than $100. According to a CNN report, one of a few experimental methods being used to identify suspicious dudes at the airport uses Nintendo's Wii Balance Board (sans Wii Fit Plus ). Scientists part of the Future Attribute Screening Technology (FAST) program have taken the Wii Fit peripheral and adjusted it to measure how a person shifts their weight. Scientists hope to find 'a level of fidgeting that would suggest the need for secondary screening.' We're just glad we're not a part of the study, because every time we step on a Balance Board, we can't help but act like we're playing that awesome hula hoop minigame . That's a suspicious amount of fidgeting. [Via Kotaku ] Bala...

Bond - An Easy Way to Make Dumb Ceiling Fans Smart

Setting up a Smart Home is both fun and maddening at the same time. Outlets, plugs, switches, bulbs, neutral wires, oh boy! Ceiling fans fall into the maddening category for me and attempting to determine the best way to smarten them up was getting annoying... until I found this little black puck called Bond . Bond - Only $99 @ Amazon Bond is simple. It uses RF and IR to communicate with the fans in your home. If your fan has a remote, Bond can make it smart. Better yet, it works with Alexa and Google Assistant with more integrations planned (Homekit, Smartthings, Wink, Nest, IFTTT). Setup is is simple. Connect Bond to your WiFi, point your old remote at the device, then walk through the simple set up on the app. From there you're all set to control your fan(s) with the well designed Bond app, or link up your Bond account to Alexa or Google Assistant for Voice control on your smart speaker of choice. I have my Bond hooked up to Alexa and Google Assistant right now and ...

Giving the Toddler Access to Phone Calls on Google Home

Hey Google, Call... Recently I decided to give the three year old unfettered access to make phone calls to friends and family from Google Home. It was a great decision, and has been hilarious (at least on our end of the line)... He has pretty much called everyone in his contacts save for a few (so if you haven't been called yet be on the lookout). Calls typically involve Brodie yelling, whispering, talking to people other than the caller, wandering off, calling at late hours, calling at early hours, using visual cues that the caller is supposed to pick up on (pointing, showing, etc.), but the best part is how calls end... abruptly, without warning, and after yelling "Google hang up, hang up, hang up Google" a few times before remembering the phrase is, "Ok/Hey Google, hang up." Here's how it works: Needs - Google account for the child Google Home Google Voice account (optional) The Setup - Create a Google account for the kiddo (G...
